A Taste of Galesburg

A Taste of Galesburg

The Taste of Galesburg runs from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on a Thursday evening during July. Plan on spending the night as you will be stuffed after sampling food from 20+ restaurants and listening and dancing to live music on three stages. The Great House B&B is the perfect setting for a relaxing weekend. The following day get up late and enjoy a late breakfast or early lunch at one of Galesburg’s restaurants you experienced the night before.

Stop 1: The Great House of Galesburg

If you have ever dreamed of staying in a majestic Victorian mansion and being treated like royalty, the Great House is the perfect B&B. Check-in instructions are emailed out a few days before your visit and were easy to follow. There is plenty of parking and the four rooms are comfortable and spacious and beautifully decorated. All four sleeping rooms are upstairs. There is also a fully stocked coffee bar on the second-floor landing. Next to the coffee bar is a table with fresh water refreshed daily and individual packages of crackers for a quick snack. The owner promptly replied via text messages to any questions and offered excellent suggestions. Linda clearly loves her community. She even touch based after my stay.

Pro tip: Check in at 3:00 p.m. before heading to The Taste of Galesburg as you will want to spend as much time as possible at the event.

Stop 2: Taste of Galesburg

Sample generous servings of dishes representing the amazing cuisine from 20+ area restaurants. It is a guarantee that you want to visit your favorite restaurant(s) the following day. Attendees purchase tokens to use at the food stands; thus minimizing the time at each food stand and vendors having to make change. If you have any tokens left you can turn them in for cash. There were plenty of tables to sit down and enjoy the dishes and the live music that filled the street all evening. It was also easy to strike up a conversation with the locals.

Pro tip: Bring cash as debit & credit cards are not accepted.

Stop 3: Landmark Cafe & Creperie

Whether you go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner you will be wowed by the quality of food at Landmark Cafe & Creperie. After spending the previous evening at the Taste of Galesburg, a visit to Landmark Cafe & Creperie for lunch was a must. The food was better than all the positive recommendations. The venue, staff, customers, and food all deserve a 10. They even have a patio which is everything you would expect a patio to be, shaded, brick flooring, and lots of plants.

Pro tip: Don’t forget to have dessert. Even a small dessert is enough to share.
