Nestled in the heart of Illinois, Galesburg may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of craft beer, but our charming city has quietly become a hub for craft breweries. From its rich history to its vibrant brewing scene, Galesburg has much to offer for beer enthusiasts and curious visitors alike. Whether you prefer hoppy IPAs or a lighter wheat ale, our town has a beer to satisfy just about anyone (21 and up, of course).
Get the feel of our ties to the railroad at Iron Spike Brewing Company with a pint of “Speed Rail” Lager. Located downtown, this rustic brick building gives off welcoming vibes to all who may enter. The interior is decorated with graffiti that provides a visually appealing, artistic atmosphere to go with the enticing food and beer. The brewing supplies are visible from the dining area, allowing restaurant goers to get an up close view into just how intensive their brewing process is. And while it may be an impressive amount of work, nobody can argue with the results.
Just across the street from Iron Spike is our next location, Cherry Street Brewing Company. This family owned and operated establishment not only has a great selection of food, but now brings their version of craft brew to the masses. From grain to glass, Cherry Street takes you through the process of crafting a quality beer. Visit the CSBC Safari Room and “Take It Easy Dude” with a pint of stout. If you are looking for great food, great service and outstanding craft beer, then CSBC is a must-visit.
Our next stop takes us to Reserve Artisan Ales. This pour-your-own taproom features 30 beverages ranging from beer to wine and non-alcoholic options of old fashioned sodas. Located in a remodeled and re-imagined car dealership, RAA offers a community space to enjoy amazing craft beers and great food with friends. The most unique feature is the re-engineered 1960s city bus that has been converted into the housing for all the taps. It’s quite a unique sight to see and experience. The newest addition to RAA is the street car that has been converted into a food truck. So now customers can enjoy delicious pizza, pretzels, panini, etc. while tasting some of the best craft brew in the Midwest.
Although craft beer has become prominent in Galesburg, that’s not all we have to offer. No matter if you prefer a sweet cocktail, smooth bourbon or a glass savory wine, we have a variety of establishments that can mix it up. The Bar 65 is fast becoming a hot spot for whiskey fans. As you enter, the atmosphere sucks you in and makes you feel like this is a place you belong. Walking up to the expansive wooden bar, you will face a literal wall of spirits from which to choose. About any bourbon or whiskey you can think of will be at your disposal. Sam, the bartender/owner, will immediately make you feel like you have been friends forever and that you are in a comfortable place that you’ll want to visit again.
Finally, our tour brings us to Hidden Hills Vineyard and Winery. A gravel path leads you to the beautiful winery where you will find a taste experience unlike any other. Once in the tasting room, you’ll cozy up to the unique custom designed bar and sample a variety of wines produced right here in Knox County. Visit their website to keep up to date on events they hold throughout the year.
A small town with big time flavor, Galesburg will get you in the spirit!
