When looking for a personalized farm experience, from homegrown goods to a good old fashioned rural getaway, Galesburg and Knox County are proud to be home to a welcoming agritourism scene.
A trip to one of the area’s many locally-owned farms and businesses will prove to be a memorable and special bonding experience between your family and the countryside. Walnut Grove Farm is a Civil War Era farm, a historic landmark that shows the evolution of farming. While being a fully functioning 21st century farm, the main barn hosts several events every year: the Scenic Drive Barn fest, a holiday market, and even private events like weddings. The barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, and is a place for anyone to come learn about and revel in its rich history.
Not too far from Walnut Grove Farm and just off Interstate 74, is Prairie Moon Farm, a small, family-owned farm established in 2020, with a goal of being a special place for kids to have fun and for families to make memories together. There’s always plenty to do and see throughout the year: a flower and vendor market in the spring, a pumpkin patch in the fall, a Christmas market in the winter (as well as reindeer encounters), a barn store packed with seasonal items, and more!
In a rural corner of Knox County, Heartland Criations Alpacas is a locally owned farm that specializes in raising Suri alpacas. The gentle and curious nature of these alpacas makes for a wonderful experience for kids and adults alike. At Heartland, you can feed and interact with the alpacas, as well as leave with a one-of-a-kind alpaca product right from the farm store.
Another special staple of the Knox County agritourism scene is Hidden Hills Vineyard and Winery. The vineyard boasts several acres of grape vines and a unique custom designed bar in their tasting room, where you have the opportunity to sample any of their local wines. Sit back and relax on their beautiful grounds and enjoy the simplicity of the countryside!
